North Carolina scored a new record-breaking home sale with a $15.85 million transaction in the state’s Blue Ridge Mountains.
According to Mansion Global, the approximately 13,500-square-foot home on a 7.64-acre is in Banner Elk, an affluent vacation destination located roughly about 80 miles northeast of Asheville. The five-bedroom home was listed for $14 million in September, and Marilyn Wright of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty reported the property sold above its asking price because the buyer bought it fully furnished – complete with rugs, antiques and armor. The home went into contract 12 days after being listed.
The property’s seller is Thomas Rouse, co-founder of the Texas medical-device company Berkshire Biomedical, who acquired the land in 2007 for $1.25 million and constructed the residence the following year. The buyer was not publicly identified.
The transaction supersedes North Carolina’s previous record-breaking sale price for a $14 million transaction in Linville that closed in October.
