More than three-quarters of prospective home buyers are now considering climate risks when they are shopping for residential properties, according to new research from Zillow (NASDAQ:Z, ZG).
Zillow determined that 83% of prospective buyers consider climate risk when looking to buy a home. Regionally, 90% of buyers in the West and 85% in the Northeast focus on climate risk, compared to 79% in the South and 77% in the Midwest.
Among age demographics, climate risk is a greater concern among millennials (86%), Gen Z (84%) and Gen X (82%), but its significance is lower among baby boomers (70%).
But while buyers acknowledge climate risks, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are avoiding areas with a higher probability of environmental hazards – 49% of buyers plan to remain in areas that pose the same climate risks they already face, with 27% planning to move into areas with more risks and only 23% considering homes in areas that they believe to be safer from the dangers of climate disasters.
“Climate risks impact where most prospective buyers shop for a home,” said Zillow senior population scientist Manny Garcia. “While all generations juggle trade-offs like budget, floor plans and commute times, younger home shoppers are more likely to face another consideration: They want to know if their home will be safe from rising waters, extreme temperatures and wildfires.”
Let’s see if we can assist you in translating. I think what you meant to say is “weather conditions” and not “climate change”.
We’ve helped hundreds of people of all generations/ages buy a home over nearly 20 years and never heard a Buyer even one time express this as a concern. Would like to see the survey questions that were created to ensure this survey outcome to fit the climate fear agenda.
What a sham of a poll. I think most people would have said, “What are you talking about? Are you crazy?” Would love to see that percentage. Been selling real estate for over 40 years and trust me this is not a thing.
Absolutely laughable! Way to peddle the BS Zillow! Pathetic….
My family, including me, have been in the real estate business since 1972. Nobody ever wanted to discuss “Climate Change” when buying a home or vacant land.
23 years in real estate and never once has a buyer asked about “climate” risks. We are on the Texas coast and values keep going up, especially for waterfront homes. This “poll” is more about promoting an agenda than anything. But then again, it’s Zillow, so I guess this should be expected.
Clearly this article and “poll” has been stacked and written in a way to push a narrative. I have never once had to answer any buyers questions about climate change.
Although “Global Warming” is of REAL concern, that most inhabitants of “earth” do NOT take seriously, that “common sense” tells us “is true and factual”, after watching the most recent documentary series of “On How The Earth Was Made”, concerning volcanoes, earthquakes and tremors, tsunamis, ground movements below the surface at 1″/yr, ocean floor movement into the deepest oceanic trench in the world, greater than 7 miles deep, that will eventually cause the ocean water to dry up, I determined it is just as important as “Global Warming”, but maybe even more important, since an earthquake of a much larger magnitude than previously experienced in CA, appears to be approaching Los Angeles in the next 30 years that “Global Warming” has been working and moving, more slowly, toward earth’s destruction since the 1st of 4 “industrial revolutions” (IRs), when agricultural societies became more industrialized and urban, beginning in 1765=coal, the 1st IR.
Actually, man-made “Global Warming” and other destruction forces of man-kind, animal kingdom, foliage and finally the “Earth”, must not only be investigated more expeditiously, but specialized teams should be standing by to implement plans to not only quickly slow down the processes, but to also determine and immediately apply ways to eradicate the destruction process, for all “life on earth”, as we now know it, or forever hold our “peace here and now on earth”, that we must ask those who supercede us to forgive us for leading our earth into devastating destruction.
Maybe the “Martians” are watching over us to not only learn from our mistakes; but also to save us humans from ourselves when earth’s destruction takes place that they will transport us to their new planet to “live out our lives”! (;>)
