A new report has concluded that Denver needs more housing – specifically, 52,000 housing units for the short-term and more than 500,000 by 2050.
According to a Denver7.com report, the report from the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), the demographic is greatest need of new housing are Denver residents making the least amount of money. The report also warned that current housing is inadequate for the diversity of housing needs across income levels and household types.
“As we’ve seen through the last couple of decades, Denver’s experienced tremendous growth,” said Sheila Lynch, director of regional planning and development for DRCOG, adding that for the required housing “almost 60% of those units really should be for those earning 60% of the area median income or less.”
The report also highlighted the need for new housing to be in proximity to public transportation, and it provided recommendations on how to address the address the different housing needs in the different sections of this market.
“We really want to understand housing and how we should be growing in a way that makes the most sense for us,” said Lynch. “Both from an infrastructure perspective and also to ensure that people have access to different opportunities, economic opportunities, school opportunities.”
LOL, the Soviets called them 5 Year Plans. This is socialism at best and communism at worst. I can’t wait to see how this plays out…
Hit the nail on the head, thank you!
Alternatively we could stop allowing so many people across the border, prevent Denver from being a sanctuary city and suddenly there will be no more housing crisis.
Completely agree!!!
