The trade associations representing the nation’s home builders and mortgage bankers offered generous praise for the new Trump administration. However, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) made no public comment on the change at the White House.
Carl Harris, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a custom home builder from Wichita, Kansas, commended President Trump “for acting on day one to make housing a national priority by issuing an executive order that seeks to lower the cost and increase the supply of housing. President Trump understands that America is facing a housing affordability crisis and the only way out of this crisis is to remove barriers like unnecessary and costly regulations that are raising housing costs and preventing builders from building more attainable, affordable housing.”
Harris added that NAHB “released a 10-point housing plain to remove the impediments to increasing the nation’s housing supply and we look forward to working with the Trump administration and Congress to enact sound policies that will allow builders to boost housing production and affordability.”
Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) President and CEO Bob Broeksmit also offered good wishes to the new administration.
“On behalf of the Mortgage Bankers Association, I congratulate President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance,” he said. “We look forward to working with their administration and the 119th Congress on policies and initiatives that generate economic growth and make the housing market work better for our nation’s homeowners and renters.”
Broeksmit added, “President Trump campaigned on lowering costs for Americans, and we appreciate housing supply and affordability being included in an executive order on this issue. We support efforts to cut unnecessary regulatory red tape and to pursue federal housing program enhancements that make renting and homeownership more attainable and sustainable. This includes our strong belief that the Federal Housing Administration should eliminate its life of loan premium requirement and strongly consider a reasonable reduction to FHA mortgage insurance premium levels to reduce housing costs for low- to moderate-income Americans. MBA and its members stand ready to partner with the Trump administration as it builds its economic, housing, and financial services agenda.”
While NAHB and MBA looked forward to working with the Trump White House, NAR did not offer public praise for the new administration. Rather than acknowledge yesterday’s inauguration, NAR called attention to the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, posting on X: “Join NAR in honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. today and every day. Let’s continue to strive for equality, justice, and unity in his memory.”

NAR is worthless.
One of the reasons I don’t donate to any of the Eealtor PACs, they all seem to be Democrats and support policies that are counterintuitive to the advancement of the housing industry in general and Realtors specifically.
NAR is not only worthless. They are counter productive at this point.
they are a self serving organization. They no longer serve Realtors and our clients. They showed their true colors in March 2020. This is not an organization in which it leaders value private property ownership . If they had, we would never been in a situation where landlords were singled out as greedy and had to take a one -2-3 pinch when people lost their incomes. Think about it. Just one segment of society was selected to take this hit. It want spread across the board. It was the landlords.
By the way. That’s the same landlords that are being told that they MUST rent to this person or that person. Hello. This is private property. —not public housing.
By the way. Please object when you hear the words “housing provider”. I’m not. A housing provider. I’m a landlord. When I rented. I was a tenant! That’s a legal standing and comprehensive. I can see the tracks are being laid for private housing to become public housing stock and we absolutely must stand at guard from this because NAR and CAR have sold out.
Well written, Carol. I believe many of us share your feelings about NAR. I have been a Realtor for 25 years and have seen NAR become less and less concerned about its constituents. Al
Carol I agree wholeheartedly with you! We all should have realized that when they sold Realtor.com ….. did one Realtor get a dime from the sale? No, we just lost our main advertising on the internet!
We all need to wake up and stop supporting them.
NAR DOES NOT REPRESENT IT’s PAYING MEMBERS, only its elite staff! No vote was allowed on the pathetic “Settlement” that affects all licensed members and their clients, NAR needs to be closed down and replaced!!’n
NAR has been very left leaning for the last 5 years and with the current CEO, I understand why they threw members under the bus. Shame that an event as traditional as a presidential inauguration was kicked to the curb to honor an event that started only 57 years ago. NAR is not concerned about housing, its members only being ‘woke’
Agreed! Their leadership roles are filled with Liberals not concerned about anything but their own agendas. Tired of their B.S.
America is tired of the political left. We thought we had defeated them when the Berlin Wall and then the USSR fell. The Democrats used to be liberal but are now progressive. Liberals will discuss issues and try to convince others. Progressives are communists who will usurp power and force others to obey. Progressives killed hundreds of millions in the 20th century. As a former Democrat, I am committed to standing up for America against the Democrats who are controlled by outside entities and literally hate America and everything about us.
Head scratcher for sure. I’m all for what the NAR said, I guess. However, I think a rising tide of economic activity, which the Republicans, love’em or hate’em, are good at doing, has got to help real estate. I’m getting ready for a good year.
I like your analysis of the private landlord / tenant relationship..
Also, your comment about the Public housing stock”
I think you nailed it..
The problem is not “affordable housing” throw taxpayer money to solve it..
Many homeowners own a vacation home as well as a home where they stay put 70% of the time..
Or like you said own a home and a multifamily for an investment ( or live in one unit and rent out the other(s) to help pay the mortgages
Back in the ole days, many families bought multi family homes and had low rents to family members just to keep the family unit and the bills shared or to give the opportunity for their children to save and purchase a home with a good down payment..
The NAR and other entities.. want Smart Cities” where the big wigs own everything and you own nothing.
Look up an interview from PBS on O. Z. ( acronym for Opportunity Zones”
Another fed govt grant going to big wigs developers.. yet you and I would never even be considered for “fake funding from investors “
Creating Home Owner Associations” where the monthly fees were affordable.. then now not so much! The costs have trippled..
Trump was for the OZ program in 2017… don’t get me wrong, I like some stuff he’s doing but I look at everything and this makes me question the homeownership dream all Americans have..
Just putting things out there to research yourselves and come up with your own conclusions
Just finished a survey from a Real Estate group (name didn’t end in ‘AR) that asked what our local, state, and national trade associations could do to add value for their members. Only thing I could think of was ‘Close Their Doors’. Sad times for a once proud industry. The good news…can’t get any lower than the bottom of the barrel!!!🤬
NAR did the right thing for once. Interest rates are low, unemployment is low, employment is up. All those are good signs for the housing market. On the other hand, steep tariffs will increase prices and fuel inflation. His promise to deport 15-20 million people sure isn’t going to help the housing market, either construction or rentals and purchases. Trump’s nominee for HUD Secretary, Scott Turner, is a former professional football player and a Texas state representative. And remember: NAR simply hasn’t heaped effusive praise on Trump and his policies. Sometimes silence is golden
Totally agree! Sometimes I wonder why most Realtors/agents/brokers feel that being ultra-political (as in Republicans) is always the appropriate position to take when discussing matters related to the health of the real estate industry and the economy as a whole.
There is more to the new administration than housing and releasing regulatory red tape. People/developers, when left to their own devices, will always cut corners to save money. They will happily use substandard materials and will forego environmental regulations and energy efficiency to the detriment of our environment. We cannnot afford that as we sit on the precipice of environmental calamity. And, if we don’t have a democracy we can’t change or improve or advance anything meaningful, possibly for decades to come – if ever. Kudos to NAR for honoring MLK. He was a man of honor for all citizens. Oligarchs running the country will not help any of us.
Trump is the worst human being ever to sit in oval office. This country will suffer.
Going to be a long four years for you…
I hope Meg and Dorothy get the mental health treatment he/she needs. I don’t want people like her near my family. They are unstable and tend to be dangerous. Like Orwell said, it’s always the females…
The NAR needs to be eliminated.
For once NAR seems to have taken the most intelligent route. Who in their right mind would endorse a dictator for US President? Only those kissing up instead of garnering support for us professionals.
Comment * I am not a big fan of the NAR just to start this off I do find all of the above to be somewhat interesting, but I do not think that our issues in this day and time with our beloved real estate industry are such that we need to focus on the topic at hand
To me, the most important issue is the damage done by the former department of justice and in particular met Garland Under the guise of some fable about wanting to be fair, transparent and negotiable. Did Mr. Garland really wreck our livelihood now and in the future.
I submit to all of you collectively, that we possibly should encourage the honorable Mr. Phil Hall to use his connections and speak on our behalf to Mrs. Pam Bondy to see what movement we could start to undo the damage to the real estate industry that has been dealt to us as of this past March and in particular August 17
Phil, I know you must remain as neutral as possible, but I believe you have already shown your cards. Would you please consider the above thought on the behalf of nearly 1 1/2 million people?
I asked you to bear with me as I have dictated this, and Siri does not really understand my southern ease thus some misspellings
