The trade associations representing the nation’s home builders and mortgage bankers offered generous praise for the new Trump administration. However, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) made no public comment on the change at the White House.

Carl Harris, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a custom home builder from Wichita, Kansas, commended President Trump “for acting on day one to make housing a national priority by issuing an executive order that seeks to lower the cost and increase the supply of housing. President Trump understands that America is facing a housing affordability crisis and the only way out of this crisis is to remove barriers like unnecessary and costly regulations that are raising housing costs and preventing builders from building more attainable, affordable housing.”

Harris added that NAHB “released a 10-point housing plain to remove the impediments to increasing the nation’s housing supply and we look forward to working with the Trump administration and Congress to enact sound policies that will allow builders to boost housing production and affordability.”

Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) President and CEO Bob Broeksmit also offered good wishes to the new administration.

“On behalf of the Mortgage Bankers Association, I congratulate President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance,” he said. “We look forward to working with their administration and the 119th Congress on policies and initiatives that generate economic growth and make the housing market work better for our nation’s homeowners and renters.”

Broeksmit added, “President Trump campaigned on lowering costs for Americans, and we appreciate housing supply and affordability being included in an executive order on this issue. We support efforts to cut unnecessary regulatory red tape and to pursue federal housing program enhancements that make renting and homeownership more attainable and sustainable. This includes our strong belief that the Federal Housing Administration should eliminate its life of loan premium requirement and strongly consider a reasonable reduction to FHA mortgage insurance premium levels to reduce housing costs for low- to moderate-income Americans. MBA and its members stand ready to partner with the Trump administration as it builds its economic, housing, and financial services agenda.”

While NAHB and MBA looked forward to working with the Trump White House, NAR did not offer public praise for the new administration. Rather than acknowledge yesterday’s inauguration, NAR called attention to the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, posting on X: “Join NAR in honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. today and every day. Let’s continue to strive for equality, justice, and unity in his memory.”
