The Minnesota Department of Revenue announced the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has charged Wayzata-based real estate agent Kevin Patrick Mullen with five felony counts of failing to file individual income tax returns and five felony counts of willfully failing to pay income tax.
According to the charges brought against him, Mullen evaded paying income taxes earned through his business, Ideal Properties and Investments LLC, from 2019 through 2023. This occurred despite receiving multiple contacts with the department about his prior debts.
Although Mullen eventually filed his missing tax returns last February, complaint stated that he also failed to file tax returns for multiple tax years prior to 2019. According to the complaint, Mr. Mullen told department staff in 2017 that he was in the process of filing multiple late returns dating back as far as 2008. The complaint states that none of those returns were filed.
Mullen allegedly owes more than $397,000 in income tax for tax years 2019 through 2023. Each tax-related felony charge against him carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
