The artificial intelligence company Anthropic has signed a lease to become the single tenant for an entire San Francisco skyscraper.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the company will occupy the entirety of 300 Howard Street in the city’s Financial District. The 25-story property, which was built in 2000 and encompasses approximately 416,000 square feet of office space plus 5,831 square feet of retail, was formerly known as 199 Fremont and was previously leased to Fitbit and StubHub. Last April, the vacant building was sold for $111.3 million to developer DivcoWest and investor Blackstone Real Estate.

The financial terms of the lease were not disclosed, although the Chronicle reported the company was seeking a 13-year lease at the property. Anthropic was founded in 2021 by the siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei and has office leases in two other San Francisco buildings.

“Dario and I were born and raised in San Francisco – it’s where Anthropic was founded, and where so much of our story has unfolded,” said Daniela Amodei in a statement. “With over 1,300 employees in the Bay Area and counting, I’m especially excited about what this growth means for the local community as we look to deepen our partnerships with the incredible businesses and organizations doing meaningful work in the city that we love and call home.”
