Several deep-pocketed New York City real estate executives are making generous donations to the super political action committee (PAC) backing Andrew Cuomo’s campaign to become the city’s next mayor.

The New York Post reports the “Fix the City” super PAC has received a $250,000 donation from Suffolk Construction Co. Chairman and CEO John Fish, $100,000 from the RFR Holdings real estate firm founded by Michael Fuchs and Aby Rosen, and a $50,000 donation from Stephen Ross, founder and chairman of Related Companies.

Super PACs are able to raise unlimited level of contributions from donors, as opposed to candidate campaigns that are only able to receive a maximum of $2,100 from donors if they request public matching funds. Fix the City was created by close associates of Cuomo, but under the law the campaign and the super PAC cannot coordinate activities.

Cuomo, who served as Housing and Urban Development Secretary in the Clinton administration, resigned as New York governor in 2020 following multiple accusations of sexual harassment. During the pandemic, he initially received wide praise for his daily briefings but later faced criticism that his policies led to Covid-related deaths among nursing home residents.

In the latest poll for the Democratic mayoral primary, Cuomo leads the field with 41% share of the vote, with incumbent Mayor Eric Adams polling at a distant 6%.
