Four congressional lawmakers – Reps. Mark Alford (R-MO), J. Luis Correa (D-CA), Tracey Mann (R-KAN) and Brittany Pettersen (D-CO) – have partnered to launch the Bipartisan Congressional Real Estate Caucus.
In launching the caucus, the lawmakers noted that real estate represents 16% of U.S. GDP, supports 2.8 million jobs, and generates $50 billion in tax revenue. However, the lawmakers did not set forth an agenda regarding specific bills they sought to promote or legislative goals that they wished to achieve. And only Petterson is a member of the House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance
“I am proud to serve as a co-chair of the Real Estate Caucus,” said Alford. “I know that housing is a key issue for all Americans, and especially for my constituents. Before being elected to Congress, I owned a small real estate business, so I know firsthand the regulatory challenges that realtors face every day. I’m honored to be able to chair this caucus and work together to solve real estate issues.”
The caucus is backed by several prominent housing trade organizations including the National Association of Realtors, the Mortgage Bankers Association, the National Association of Home Builders and the National Multifamily Housing Council.
FOR WHAT?!?
This caucus should include representatives from the real estate community. I have an office here in New York and Long Island and represents 700 real estate agents. We are the boots on the ground that can give the caucus valuable information.
I live in the South. Please keep your progressive Democrats in NY! Send only nice people who are not Democrats-Independents, Moderates, Libertarians, Conservatives and various normal Americans.
As noble as it sounds, it is not new and a stupid idea. They are no different than the established bi-partisan committees except they have less voice and will be chastised and ignored by the congressional body.
Sooo, Sorry a nothing story. The entire Real Estate Idustry is being bombarded for all sides, espically Blue States such as NY. Recent debate of how Agents and Brokers are paid take the National spotlight and actual compensation is never clearly explained. Banks have blamed for the Great recession and tenants now have rights than the owners, regardless of the harm and damge to the building and their fellow neighbor tenants.
This article requires much more information, for instance what is the mission of this commette!
Brian, as stated in the article the committee did not outline its immediate goals in its launch announcement.
I’m a real estate agent in Minnesota. I’m so glad to here that someone has made an effort to addressing the big problems of the real estate industry.
A caucus that solves nothing
But make money and power for the caucus members…corruption for sure…who falls for this stuff?
The biggest problem in the real estate industry is illustrated by this: “The caucus is backed by several prominent housing trade organizations including the National Association of Realtors, the Mortgage Bankers Association, the National Association of Home Builders and the National Multifamily Housing Council.” This insanity has to be stopped before the whole country is ruined like the blue cities and states..
Reading the article and seeing the names of the partners, i feel that congress did not any one person who actually sales real estate or an everyday practitioner. NAR sets rules and guidelines but doesn’t sell property nor do the other partners maybe with the exception of the builders.
I have been an active realtor for over 46 years and unless you have experts who work with the people of the community all you have is a group of people who will tell you what you want to hear. How about listening to your constituents.
So Donnie & Bob,
Your answer to trying to solve anything, is to do Nothing!
And Realtors, mortgage bankers, builders and a National multi-family housing council working together to try and make a difference are slammed for their efforts??
Your way sounds much like the Republican way the last couple of years of doing nothing. As evidenced by the Republican senators and the House leaving office because they are so fed up with their own party. Constant cynicism will get you no where!
Backed by NAR, NAHB etc., yet no goal, no agenda, no goal, no purpose. Guess it fits the word ‘caucus’ :
“Meaning of caucus in English. (a meeting of) a small group of people in a political party or organization who have a lot of influence, or who have similar interests.” BUT no direction.
Meet, sit and talk. Maybe they should ‘caucus’ with those of us in the field, working everyday in this industry to help people gain homeownership.
More government is never a good thing. Let the real estate commissions of each state set real estate rules & regulations. Huge corporations = lobbyists, like NAR, who influence & are influenced by global agenda$ get in bed w politicians only to enrich themselves & enslave or marginalize their members. Pay attention people, there’s more here than is being revealed… it won’t be good for the average realtor, sellers+buyers of residential real estate. Don’t get fooled.
