The mayor of Aurora, Colorado, has announced an emergency court order is being requested to clear the apartment buildings that have been taken over by the Venezuelan criminal gang Tren de Aragua, while Colorado’s governor still insists claims of gang encroachment were figments of “imagination.”

Mayor Mike Coffman took to Facebook to report Aurora City Attorney’s Office was preparing court documents that would declare the gang-occupied properties as a criminal nuisance.

“This will require a municipal judge to issue the order with the goal of getting these properties back under the control of the property owners,” said Coffman. “In the meantime, the law enforcement task force set up to disrupt and arrest Venezuelan gang members in these buildings will continue its operations.”

Coffman insisted the gang activity “has been isolated to properties that are all under the same out-of-state ownership whose problems with code violations and criminal activity preceded the migrant crisis. I strongly believe that the best course of action is to shut these building down and make sure that this never happens again.”

Coffman’s acknowledgement that Tren de Aragua had taken over local properties contradicts the claims of Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, who insisted the growing presence of the criminal gang in Aurora “is largely a feature of Danielle Jurinsky’s imagination” – a reference to the Aurora city council member who alerted the national media to the gang’s growing power in the city.
