A Detroit woman who conducted business as an unlicensed real estate agent and accountant was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading pled no contest to one felony and two misdemeanors.
According to Office of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, Krystal Davis was operating Card Property Management LLC when she entered into a contract with the owner of two residential properties in Detroit to provide property management services that included determining rental rates, marketing the properties, selecting tenants, collecting rent, and handling evictions.
However, Davis did not have a state license to work as a real estate broker or a real estate salesperson, as would be required by law to furnish such services. Nor was her company licensed to provide real estate services.
Davis also presented herself as a certified public accountant (CPA) when soliciting tax preparation business. Davis is not licensed in Michigan as a CPA.
In June, Davis entered a no contest plea to one count of Accounting Violations-Unlicensed CPA and two counts of Occupational Code-Unlicensed Real Estate Agent.
“There is a reason we have licensing requirements for real estate agents, accountants, and other occupational professions,” said Nessel. “People need to trust those they hire to sell their home, provide property management services, or handle their finances. My department will continue to hold those who attempt to evade licensing and regulatory requirements accountable to protect the financial pockets of Michiganders.”
Lock her up. And consumers, please check with you State licensing authorities for verification first. Do rely on what’s printed on business cards.
yes
Glad she got busted. Meanwhile it’s becoming a bad practice among many team’s & brokerages in TX having Unlicensed transaction or listing coordinators who are communicating (on behalf of the seller’s or buyer’s agents) with the client(s), they know it’s wrong, they’re just hoping they don’t get caught by their board or state!
It’s unfortunate that this is happening, not only in Detroit but many other areas. If you want to sell real estate, manage rentals, and be in this professional field, take the right and ethical route. Even after getting licensed, continue to learn and be the best you can be! It serves the community well!
Good for the department that will continue to hold those who attempt to evade licensing and regulatory requirements accountable to protect the financial pockets of Michiganders.”
What does she care? There was no punishment, no monetary consequences. It’s possible she will start over after two years. This is not fair to all those who took proper courses and qualified to receive licenses.
Probation won’t mean anything to her. Anyone who does stuff like this has no conscience and she will do it again.
Well done.
What a laugh at her punishment. Although she had to probably pay a hefty lawyer fee to get her such a laughable sentence. Jeez … why do we put so much money into classes and license fees when people like that can just do this?
