The developers behind the New England-area offshore wind project that was 80% completely before being abruptly halted by the Trump administration has filed a lawsuit to overturn the stop-work order.
The New York Times reports Revolution Wind LLC, a joint venture between the Danish company and Skyborn Renewables, have asked to US District Court for the District of Columbia to block the enforcement of the stop-worker order on the $6.2 billion project. The lawsuit assailed the administration for issuing its order “in bad faith,” adding they will incur $1 billion in financial penalties for incomplete work plus the loss of billions of dollars in future revenue if the administration cancels the project.
Construction on the 65-turbine Revolution Wind project began in 2023 after the developers gained federal permits from multiple agencies including the Department of Defense. The administration cited unspecified national security concerns in issuing the stop-work order.
The project developers said Revolution Wind will provide electrical power to 350,000 households across Connecticut and Rhode Island. The attorneys general of those states have filed a separate lawsuit against the Trump administration to void its order.
