As the National Association of Realtors (NAR) rings out its problem-plagued year, there is a report of two new endeavors to create a national-level trade association for real estate professionals.
The New York Times reported Jason Haber, a Compass real estate broker who became a vocal critic of NAR’s leadership in the wake of the organization’s recent scandals, said he was seeking funds to start a new trade group by mid-2024, provided that NAR’s troubles worsen and its future becomes perilous. Haber is running The NAR Accountability Project and is collecting emails and social media followers from the real estate industry as part of that endeavor.
Separately, Mauricio Umansky, the founder and CEO of The Agency and a reality television personality, said he was planning to create an alternative to NAR. However, he provided no details on how he planned to launch this effort.
“They’re making decisions to protect themselves and the multiple listings services – they worry more about that than protecting the realtors,” said Umansky, who is suing NAR after the organization attempted to shut down his private home listing site.
Haber and Umansky stated they were in touch with each other and would consider combining their efforts.
It’s a dog eat dog world. I hope that these two individuals are not in cahoots with not working for the US government
Buying a home is one of the largest transactions in your lifetime. Be very aware of who you choose to help you negotiate through the many many steps of home purchase. There are way too many licensed agents that are not engaged in the Real Estate industry full-time and as their primary occupation. Many of these agents simply do not have the skill set required to provide excellent service. I’ve been licensed for 40 years and can attest to the fact that our biggest challenge as Realtors* is working with agents who don’t know what they’re doing. Not all agents are Realtors, by the way. KNOW YOUR REALTOR! It’s concerning that a reality TV personality would be contemplating
becoming an expert in the Real Estate Industry. Buyers and sellers BEWARE.
A good realtor doesn’t put down others. This can get you in trouble. I’d be careful what you say as I’m a long time realtor as well.
Agreed. It can be frustrating and disconcerting
Love your statement, as a former owner of a Real Estate Firm with 40 agents, you hit it right on the nail.
Our business is about people and the largest investment of their life.
Our business is also about marketing, negotiating, economics, social and financial. These are just a few and more than 90% of our industry is not of this nature as the are not practicers of the trade.
The same goes for our NAR and state agencies, they are body count business for volumn.
The whole system is Broken
Lots of very strong state and local county REALTOR boards that are working hard for the real estate industry they serve.
It’s time for the industry to change. It’s the only industry where I’m expected to pay someone to negotiate against me. I’m a frequent seller of my investments and frankly I’m ready to see some change.
