In the wake of his mortgage fraud accusations against Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa D. Cook, Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Bill Pulte has taken a page from President Trump by going on social media to insult journalists who questioned his actions.

After making his charges against Cook public via his personal X account, along with his demands for her immediate resignation, Pulte declared on X, “I will make a prediction that the mainstream media will start to TRY to minimize the alleged mortgage fraud by Lisa Cook by trying to TRIVIALIZE the amount of the money she got by misrepresenting facts. They will say, ‘oh it’s not millions and millions!’ If you steal a razor blade from CVS, you get arrested but if you are a mortgage fraudster, ‘oh well it wasn’t millions and millions’. WATCH!”

As of this writing, no media outlet has said “oh it’s not millions and millions” in connection to the story.

Pulte zeroed in on specific media sources yesterday, tweeting, “Watch. The hit pieces will start to POUR IN because I am exposing the MORTGAGE FRAUD of the Elites. Katy O’Donnell, a left wing blogger from Politico who just joined Bloomberg, is working on a hit piece where she alleges I’m not in charge of GSE’s under POTUS. ‘Fake News Katy’!”

Earlier this morning, O’Donnell was in Pulte’s crosshairs when he lashed out against a Bloomberg report titled “Pulte Regains MAGA Hero Status by Aiding Trump’s Anti-Fed Fight” by tweeting, “Bloomberg issued a completely false story today, by a left wing reporter Katy O’Donnell. She didn’t even include my quote. Instead, she worked with unregistered lobbyists to further her story.”

Pulte also took aim at one of CNBC’s longtime commentators by stating, “It is amazing seeing someone like Steve Liesman do backflips and cartwheels, and try to jump through every hoop to defend mortgage fraud. It isn’t personal Steve — it’s called mortgage occupancy fraud. Cook needs to resign.”

Pulte also played Fox Business personalities against each other, claiming that “@DagenMcdowell is so much smarter than @CGasparino!” However, he did not explain why he believed Charles Gasparino was intellectually inferior to his Fox Business colleague.

Pulte took pleasure at an error in a Politico report that had the FHFA within the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Pulte chuckled, “Lol. Such FAKE NEWS from ‘Politico’. Scott Turner is not my boss, but he is a good friend.” Politico updated the article and acknowledged the error.

Pulte may have overplayed his hand by claiming the Wall Street Journal’s longtime banking writer Nick Timiraos was intentionally ignoring his claims against Cook. Pulte denounced Timiraos by claiming, “Nick is the fed whisperer but it goes to show that he’s in the pocket for someone as he’s been quiet all day today. At some point it needs to be addressed. Journalism must be fair and square.”

But Pulte’s claim was quickly contradicted by Michael Brown, senior research strategist at Pepperstone, who shared a link to Timiraos’ coverage of the accusations against Cook. Brown’s response to Pulte: “He’s literally been reporting on & posting about the story that you’ve been pre-occupied with the entire day you complete and utter moron.”
