While Manhattan is usually the center of New York City’s luxury real estate market, a mansion on Staten Island is now in the spotlight thanks to its historic listing price and colorful history.
Mansion Global reported the luxury residence built in 1980 as the home for Gambino crime family boss Paul Castellano in on the market for $18 million. Castellano lived at the property until his murder in 1985.
The four-story, 33,000-square-foot residence has eight bedrooms and 17 bathrooms, with amenities that include a home theater, a gym with a sauna, a wine cellar, a 13-car garage and a fourth-floor entertainment area with an indoor pool. The 1.85-acre property is on Todt Hill, the highest elevation point located between Florida and Cape Cod on the Atlantic Coastal Plain.
The property last changed hands in 2000 for $3.1 million. The property was initially listed in October 2023 for $16.8 million, but was taken down earlier this month and relisted at a higher price after Melsa Skrapolliu of RJM Realty Empire Inc. took over as listing agent.
If the $18 million asking price is secured, it will break the Staten Island home sale record that was broken last year with a $4.6 million transaction.
