A Canadian man who was found guilty and is awaiting sentencing for scamming buyers of RV sites in British Columbia is facing new charges by Calgary police for coordinating a similar scheme in Alberta.

The Calgary Herald reports that Craig Douglas McMorran was found guilty with another man last September for fraudulently selling RV sites near Lake Koocanusa between 2014 and 2017.

Moran was found guilty of one count of theft and dealing of property as proceeds of crime, but his sentencing that was slated for later this month was delayed when a police investigation determined he was behind the company that bought roughly 92 acres of land outside of the town of Sucre in August 2017 and began developing the property into a campground without having an approved development permit.

McMorran’s company ignored orders to cease the development and sold lots with 99-year lease terms for between $39,900 to $69,900, along with a combined lot and cottage package was that sold for $169,000. He sold 26 lots between August 2017 and September 2020 for a combined total of $1.5 million, but in January 2022 a court issued a permanent injunction for the RV park’s development and the leaseholders were forced to evacuate their properties within six months.

McMorran is now facing a new charge of fraud over $5,000.
