A historic but long-closed cinema in Muskegon, Michigan, is being renovated as a mixed-use residential and retail development.

Fox17Online.com reports the Harbor Theatre is being reimagined as Encore at Harbor Theatre, with ground-level retail and 11 condominiums ranging from 800 to 1,300 square feet on its second and third floors. Construction is expected to begin in April or May, and the building’s exterior is being designed to recall the cinema’s legacy.

“We’re going to have a brick look to it with some nice signage to kind of pay tribute to the old theatre,” said Joe Bourdon with Randers, Engineers and Constructors.

The venue opened in November 1921 as the Rivoli Theatre, changing its name to Our Theatre in September 1935 before becoming the Harbor Theatre 30 years later. A fire damaged the building in 1977, and the building was rebuilt and reopened in 1979. The venue closed in June 2001 but reopened in March 2008 before closing for good in December 2018.
