HUD Secretary Scott Turner has warned that extremists in the Democratic Party are pushing to shut down the federal government and imperil the operations within his department’s programs.

In a posting on X, Turner wrote, “The Radical Left are going to shut down the government and inflict massive pain on the American people unless they get their $1.5 trillion wish list of demands. HUD is working to keep critical services online and support our most vulnerable.”

Turner offered no details on how HUD will operate in the event of a government shutdown. The HUD website had a similar message on its home page, except that it substituted Turner’s second sentence with “The Trump administration wants to keep the government open for the American people.” (See the above image.)

Turner blasted Democrats in another post that stated, “This isn’t a negotiation, it’s a shakedown. It is shameful that far-left Democrats are holding our government hostage for their $1.5 Trillion spending splurge.”

Another Turner message read, “Radical, far-left Democrats holding our government hostage are putting millions of Americans at risk of losing flood insurance, as two storms barrel toward our southeast. Homes could be lost and lives ruined. Democrats are risking creating a disaster.”

As of this writing, Congressional Democrats have been unable to come to an agreement with their Republican colleagues and the Trump administration on a bill to extend government spending. If an agreement is not reached before the end of the day, the government funding process will come to a halt.
