Soccer great Lionel Messi held an initial public offering (IPO) of his real estate properties, valuing the portfolio at $232 million.
Bloomberg reports Messi’s company, Edificio Rostower Socimi, is listed as a real estate investment trust (REIT) on the Portfolio Stock Exchange, a digital-only Spanish bourse. The company posted losses in 2022 and 2023 and became a REIT in mid-December, after Spain’s parliament blocked an attempt by the government to raise the tax on real estate trusts – REITs in Spain enjoy a special tax rate lower than the rate for other companies.
The former FC Barcelona forward and Inter Miami star is listed as chairman of Edificio Rostower Socimi’s board. The company’s portfolio consists of seven hotels, retail and office properties, and residential properties. Rostower began trading on Monday at $59.70 per share.
