The president of South Asia’s Republic of Maldives has shut down his government’s Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development and transferred its functions to other government ministries.
The news site Avas reports President Mohamed Muizzu transferred the Housing Ministry’s planning functions to the Finance Ministry and named it the Ministry of Finance and Planning. Finance Minister Moosa Zameer will continue to run this ministry.
The housing and infrastructure-related functions of the Housing Ministry were merged with the Construction and Infrastructure Ministry, which is now the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure. Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib will helm this department.
Housing Minister Ali Haidhar Ahmed is not without work – he has been reassigned as the Minister of Higher Education, Labor, and Skills Development. He replaces Mariyam Mariya, who has been appointed as the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.
Muizzu did not offer a public explanation on why the Housing Ministry was abolished.
