New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s newly appointed tenant advocate has become the subject of controversy due to old social media posts where she equated homeownership with “white supremacy” and called for the government seizure of private property.

WABC Radio is reporting Cea Weaver, who was named by the new mayor as director of the city’s Office to Protect Tenants, used a series of X posts between 2017 and 2020 where she advocated for voters to “elect more communists” while insisting private property – “especially homeownership” – was a “weapon of white supremacy” and supported the notion of having it taken by government agencies.

Weaver, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and a former campaign coordinator for Housing Justice for All, wrote in 2020 after the death of George Floyd that police officers were “people the state sanctions to murder with immunity.”

Mamdani and Weaver did not respond to media requests for comments on the posts, which Weaver has since deleted.
