Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke has taken to social media to deny that he is behind the GoFundMe campaign to raise money that would prevent his being evicted from his Los Angeles home.
The 72-year-old Rourke posted an Instagram video declaring, “Something’s come up that…I’m really frustrated, confused and I don’t understand.” Rourke then stated the GoFundMe endeavor what not his idea.
“Somebody set up some kind of foundation or fund for me to donate money, like charity,” he stated. “And that’s not me, okay? If I needed money, I wouldn’t ask for no f***ing charity. Whoever did this…I don’t know why they did it. I wouldn’t know what a GoFund foundation is in a million years.”
Rourke implored his fans not to donate to the campaign, adding that people who made donations should get their money back. He added that he was consulting with his lawyer over the matter.
“It is embarrassing, but I’m sure I’ll get over it like everything else,” he said.
According to a Deadline report, the GoFundMe page was created by Liya-Joelle Jones, who is identified as the assistant to Kimberly Hines, Rourke’s manager for the past nine years. Hines confirmed her team started the page after Rourke was served with an eviction notice. Hines added the collected money would be returned.
“I would love nothing more than Mickey Rourke to go back to work and do what he does best,” Hines said.
