Cromwell Island, the largest freshwater island under single ownership in the western US, has been listed for $72 million.
The 348-acre island is located approximately one hour from Glacier National Park on Flathead Lake in Montana and can be reached by a ferry. According to the property’s listing, 40% of the island is forested and 46% is classified as grazing land. Roughly 13% is irrigated, and the remainder is currently assessed as homesite.
There are two residential properties on the island: a 45,000-square-foot main home that remains unfinished and a 4,700-square-foot guest villa which is inhabitable.
“In describing Cromwell Island, it would be meaningless to toss out one of the overplayed clichés that litter the world of real estate advertising,” said Bill McDavid, listing agent at Hall and Hall, which represents the property. “Suffice it to say that this holding is a monumental piece of the earth that can only be fully appreciated when boots are on the ground.”
