The Passive House Network and Passive House California have released the California Rebuilds Catalog, featuring more than 30 fire-resilient passive house designs.
Each entry is designed to meet or exceed the Passive House Classic standard, which can reduce energy use by up to 80% compared to a standard building. Entries were gathered from the California Rebuilds Design Competition held last year and address the state’s California’s Fire Resilience Code for home and landscape hardening. The designs are tailored to areas impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires.
Some plans include areas for outdoor living, water features, and Accessible Dwelling Units (ADUs) for additional space. Those interested in a particular design are encouraged to contact the architects who submitted it to learn more. The catalog is available to view for free online.
“In the year since the Palisades and Eaton Fires swept through Los Angeles, the Passive House community has worked to create new resources to support those affected by climate disasters,” said Ken Levenson, executive director of The Passive House Network. “Our design competition and the resulting catalog represent a milestone in raising awareness of the power of resilient Passive House.”
