A new bipartisan homeowner relief initiative has been raised in Ohio, this time with a focus on reviving the pandemic-era “Save the Dream” program.

WSYX reports State Sens. Hearcel Craig (D-Columbus) and Michele Reynolds (R-Canal Winchester) introduced Ohio Senate Bill 255 that authorizes the Ohio Housing Agency to allocate up to $10 million in homeowner assistance grants in a reboot of the “Save the Dream” program that supported lower-income seniors and disabled residents during the pandemic.

The program’s goal is to reduce foreclosures and prevent utility loss for homeowners across the state. Qualified homeowners must earn less than $75,000 annually and be either seniors, individuals with disabilities, or caregivers for someone with a disability.

During the original iteration of the program, the program spent $260 million and assisted nearly 35,000 households.

The Ohio Senate will consider the bill when it convenes for its next session on Sept. 30.
