The Maine housing market is having an impact on the health of the state’s residents, according to the draft of a new medical report.
The Maine Morning Star reports the newly released draft of the Statewide Health Improvement Plan published by the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention identified four priority areas to enhance the quality of life for state residents: mental health, substance use, access to care and “healthy and stable housing.”
The draft Statewide Health Improvement Plan called for an increase the state’s affordable housing supply, adding that nearly 2,700 people are considered homeless in Maine. The draft plan also called for the state to have “housing that equitably meets the diverse needs of all,” which would include upgrades to the safety and ADA accessibility of existing housing units.
The draft plan is open for public feedback until Friday at 5:00 p.m., with the final version of the plan scheduled for release in September.
