Nobody wants to live in a boring environment, but are some states more fun than others? The folks at WalletHub insist that some states generate more jollity than others, hence its newly published list of 2025’s Most Fun States in America.

For this ranking, WalletHub’s number crunchers analyzed 26 key considerations within the scope of entertainment and recreation, focusing on both daytime and nightlife diversions. The resulting study determined that California is the nation’s most fun state, due its high number of eateries, cinemas, amusement parks and fitness centers per capita.

California is the most fun state in 2025, with an especially large number of restaurants, amusement parks, movie theaters, and fitness centers per capita. It also boasts the second-most attractions per capita overall. The state was also credited for having the most scenic byways per capita and the nation’s best beach access.

Florida, Nevada, Illinois and New York rounded out the top five fun states, while West Virginia ranked last.

“Living in one of the most fun states can boost your mental, physical and emotional health by giving you a wide range of activities to choose from, both indoor and outdoor,” said Chip Lupo, WalletHub analyst. “These states help residents stay active and socialize, and they’re also ideal for travelers who want to make the most out of the limited amount of time that they have to explore.”
