A new wildfire broke out in Los Angeles County last night, creating the region’s third active blaze.
The Los Angeles Times reports the fire began shortly after 11:00 p.m. PST on Wednesday on the eastern side of the 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass. Within two hours, the fire encompassed 20 acres at 0% containment, exacerbated by winds with gusts up to 25 mph amid very dry air with relative humidity from 3% to 8%.
An evacuation warning was issued for parts of the exclusive communities of Bel-Air and Brentwood. Among the properties in the evacuation area were Mount Saint Mary’s University, the Hotel Angeleno and the Moraga Bel Air Vineyards owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
As of this writing, there has been no data on the level of property damage. In its most recent update, the Los Angeles Fire Department stated, “The combined aerial and ground attack has made good progress against the fire.”
