Sales of new single-family houses during October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 737,000, according to estimates released jointly today by the US Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This is 0.1% below the September rate of 738,000 and is 18.7% above the October 2024 rate of 621,000.
The three-month delay in the release of the October data is due to the recent federal government shutdown.
The seasonally adjusted estimate of new houses for sale at the end of October was 488,000, virtually unchanged from the prior month and up 1.7% from the October 2024 estimate of 480,000. This represents a supply of 7.9 months at the current sales rate.
The months’ supply was virtually unchanged from September’s 7.9 months, and 15.1% below the October 2024 estimate of 9.3 months.
