Hundreds of students heading to a pair of Pittsburgh universities will be spending their fall semester in hotels instead of dormitories because the schools brought in larger-than-anticipated freshman classes.

Axios reports the University of Pittsburgh is placing 250 students in a Hampton Inn while Point Park University is housing 90 students at a Wyndham Grand. Both hotels are within walking distance of the campuses.

The schools admitted their anticipated acceptance levels were not in sync with available housing, a situation created by increased enrollment.

“Each year we extend acceptances to students, who then make the difficult decision of which college they will attend,” said Pitt spokesperson Jared Stonesifer. “We are fortunate that so many students chose Pitt this year. We are unable to predict exactly how many students will accept our offer.”

As for price of having the students housed at the hotels, Pitt said the costs are commensurate with equivalent housing on campus while Point Park is absorbing the extra costs.
