Realtor.com has added three new climate risk factor scores to its website that address heat, wind and air quality concerns within the home buying and selling process.
The new scores, which use data provided by the climate technology company First Street, include Heat Factor, which shows how many days the property area experiences a heat index (measured as temperature and humidity) at or above the local definition of a “hot day”; Wind Factor, which assesses property-level risk measured as the chance a property will be exposed to wind gusts exceeding 50 mph at least once; and Air Factor, which shows consumers the expected change in poor air quality days (Air Quality Index over 100) for both today and up to 30 years into the future.
“Realtor.com currently offers users an in-depth look at fire and flood risks. When you consider the percentage of American homes, and the value at risk, against factors like extreme heat, air quality and wind, it was imperative for us to deliver more robust and comprehensive climate risk information to our users,” said Mausam Bhatt, chief product and technology officer at Realtor.com. “It’s important for people to fully understand the climate risks that a home faces not only in the present, but in the future, so they can make the most informed decision for one of the biggest purchases and investments they will make in their life.”
Really? Really? This is what is happening at NAR when our entire business model is being challenged. I do think the priority should be protecting the economic interests of NAR’s members as their main if not only priority at this point. All Hands on Deck. The class action lawsuits may very well upend the business model that has worked so well for so long and NAR is spending time and money at this point on climate scores. Can someone tell Nero (NAR) that Rome (Our economic livelihood) is burning?
No comment on this addition to listing info, Mr Hall? I note you tend to comment often in efforts to downplay climate change concerns on your recent op-eds regarding rising insurance coverage expenses, and anything the Biden administration does in response to addressing climate change. Unfortunately for us all, the denial of climate change’s existence (or idea that it’s not actually a severe enough concern that our leadership should be discussing it) is only leading to the confusion and denial around what is obviously worsening quickly before our very eyes. How sad and foolish that you use your voice to add to the confusion.
Uh, no, because I don’t insert my opinions into news stories like this. And for the record, I never denied there have been changes in the climate brought about pollution.
Your op-eds have consistently downplayed the unquestionable effects of climate change in regards to governmental policy, insurance and housing construction requirements. This is your legacy, Sir, along with every other voice who has decried addressing climate issues head on. A gift to future generations. It’s not sufficient to say “I don’t deny the climate is changing”, while making efforts to denounce anyone speaking openly about its effects on lives, need for changing policy, necessities toward new energy sources, or rising costs. At this moment we are either fully at the table as active problem solvers, or a hindrance to change. Where do you honestly stand?
I am sorry, but you are blurring the lines between science and policy. I have never questioned the impact of pollution on the environment, but I have (in my opinion pieces) questioned whether certain governmental proposals and regulations are creating additional problems rather than offering viable solutions. I believe an argument can be made that a non-governmental approach to sustainability and energy efficiency, such as LEED certification in building design and construction, can be more efficient than federal programs. But that is my opinion.
Go hug a tree lady
Oh great for sellers.. now they’re property will be stigmatized by being located in a state/area that has hot summers, windy conditions &/or at risk of extreme weather, all which they have no control & the snowflake buyers today will actually fall for this crap. Climate score? Yea this is globalist BS. Poor air quality like the chem spraying that’s been going on for decades? Realtor dot com just got exposed being a tool for the phoney climate change agenda.
