Elon Musk’s close relationship with President-elect Donald Trump may become neighborly, as the Tesla and SpaceX chieftain and co-director of the Department of Government Efficiency is reportedly seeking a luxury property near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
The New York Post’s Page Six, citing unnamed sources, reported Musk is considering the purchase of a penthouse in The Bristol, a luxury building in Palm Beach, that belonged to the late beauty industry tycoon Sydell Miller. The 19,000-square-foot property consists of two apartments that Miller purchased in 2019 for $42.56 million, and the Post’s sources claim Sydell’s family was “mulling an offer from Elon Musk.”
Musk’s relationship with real estate has been in erratic. He amassed a multi-million-dollar real estate portfolio before making a May 2020 declaration on Twitter (now X, which he owns): “I am selling almost all physical possessions. Will own no house.” He sold off his residences and claimed a $50,000 house near SpaceX’s Texas factory as his home. However, in October the New York Times reported he purchased three adjacent mansions in Austin to create a compound that would house his children and two of their three mothers.
