Real estate developer Thomas O’Brien is reportedly planning to declare his candidacy for mayor of Boston.
WCVB.com reports that O’Brien is expected to announce his bid in the next few days. He is the CEO and managing partner of The HYM Investment Group, which was responsible for several major Boston projects including One Congress, Suffolk Downs and Boston Landing.
O’Brien would be seeking to unseat Mayor Michelle Wu who is expected to kick off her re-election bid next month. Wu was elected in 2021 and has recently been in the national spotlight for her efforts to stymie the federal government’s efforts to apprehend illegal immigrants.
Also expecting to join the mayoral race is Josh Kraft, son of New England Patriots owner and billionaire businessman Robert Kraft. Kraft has led his family’s philanthropic efforts and has served on the boards of several Boston-area nonprofits.
