Do you recall the TV sitcom “The Jeffersons” with a family that was “moving on up to a deluxe apartment in the sky”? Well, the Saudi Arabian organizers of the 2034 World Cup are going one better – they’re moving on up to a deluxe soccer stadium in the sky.
AS USA reports the proposed Sky Stadium would be perched atop a skyscraper rising nearly 1,150 feet. This structure will accommodate up to 46,000 fans and would be located in NEOM, the massive smart city currently under construction in the country’s northwest desert region.
The construction on the stadium, which will be powered entirely on solar and wind energy, is expected to start in 2027, with a completion planned by 2032. This would be among the 15 new stadiums planned across the kingdom to accommodate the World Cup tournaments.
