Shari’s Restaurants, the family-dining chain based in the West Coast and Northwest, has closed all 42 of its eateries in Oregon.
Restaurant Business reported the Beaverton, Oregon-headquartered company has been facing allegations of unpaid rent and taxes, along with eviction notices and lawsuits.
The company began operations in 1978 Shari’s Café & Pies, and at its peak it had Shari’s had nearly 100 locations across multiple states. Last year, the company recorded $121.4 million in sales, down 7.5% from 2022, and it ended the year 78 units, a 7.1% decline. The company now operates 17 locations in California, Idaho, and Washington.
Sam Borgese, founder and managing member of Gather Holdings Guarantee LLC, Shari’s parent company, said in an email to the chain’s employees that the closings occurred “despite extensive and exhaustive efforts and hopes, still, for a different outcome.”
