Single-family housing starts in December were at a rate of 981,000, according to data from the US Census Bureau and Department of Housing and Urban Development. This is 4.1% above the revised November figure of 942,000.

Privately-owned housing starts in December were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,4 million. This is 6.2% above the revised November estimate of 1.32 million but is 7.3% below the December 2024 rate of 1.51 million.

Single-family authorizations in December were at a rate of 881,000, which is 1.7% below the revised November figure of 896,000. Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits in December were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.44 million, which is 4.3% above the revised November rate of 1.38 million but is 2.2% below the December 2024 rate of 1.48 million.

Single-family housing completions in December were at a rate of 1.023 million, a 0.1% dip from the revised November rate of 1.024 million. Privately-owned housing completions in December were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.525 million, up 2.3% from the revised November estimate of 1.49 million but 0.1% lower than the December 2024 rate of 1,527 million.

An estimated 1.35 million housing units were started in 2025, which was 0.6% below the 2024 figure of 1.36 million. An estimated 1.49 million housing units were completed in 2025, which was 7.9% below the 2024 figure of 1.62 million.
