More than half of Americans believe advances in artificial intelligence (AI) results could make it more difficult for them to become homeowners.

According to a survey commissioned by Redfin, nearly three in five respondents (59%) feared that AI will result in the elimination of jobs, making it harder for people to afford homes. Half as many people (30%) have a different opinion and believe AI will help boost the US economy and help more people afford homes.

When measured along partisan lines, a little over three in five (63%) Democrats said advances in AI will eliminate jobs and make it harder to afford homes, while just under three in five (57%) Republicans shared that opinion.

Redfin cited estimates that predicted AI could displace up to 30% of US jobs, with 80% of workers affected in some way. Still, AI fears were lower than concerns over tariffs – Redfin also found nearly two-thirds (65%) of respondents believed tariffs will cause inflation and keep interest rates high, thus impacting homeownership.

Redfin’s survey was conducted by Ipsos last November and polled 4,000 US residents.
