The Texas state government has acquired a pair of historic San Antonio hotels adjacent to the Alamo.
The San Antonio Business Journal reports the Texas General Land Office purchased the Crockett and Menger hotels last week for an undisclosed sum. The two hotels were last assessed together at a $55 million valuation.
The Menger Hotel was built in 1859, and the Crockett was built in 1909. The properties were sold by the Galveston-based 1859-Historic Hotles and will be integrated into the Alamo Complex, with the Ohio-based investor Rockbridge being contracted for the day-to-day management of the hotels.
“By securing the footprint around the Alamo Complex for the State of Texas, we are protecting these hallowed grounds and enhancing one of our nation’s most sacred historical sites,” said Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham.
