A Toronto lawyer is facing multiple fraud charges tied to alleged to multiple real estate transactions.
The Toronto Police Service arrested and charged Singa Bui, a partner at the now-defunct Cartel & Bui LLP, 24 counts of fraud over $5,000, 17 counts of criminal breach of trust and one count of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000. According to the charges brought against her, Bui is accused of defrauding “parties involved in numerous real estate transactions, including her own clients, of monies exceeding $5,000.” The fraud allegedly took place between 2021 and 2024.
Bui’s husband and senior partner, Nicholas Cartel, was arrested separately and was charged with a single count of fraud over $5,000. Both Bui and Cartel were released and are scheduled to appear in court on Aug 19.
