President Donald Trump has made a proclamation that home builders and developers may not appreciate – new tariffs on home furnishings.
In a Truth Social posting, Trump declared, “We will be imposing a 50% Tariff on all Kitchen Cabinets, Bathroom Vanities, and associated products, starting October 1st, 2025. Additionally, we will be charging a 30% Tariff on Upholstered Furniture. The reason for this is the large scale “FLOODING” of these products into the United States by other outside Countries. It is a very unfair practice, but we must protect, for National Security and other reasons, our Manufacturing process. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Trump offered no explanation on why he was suddenly focused on this particular product line for increased tariffs or how kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities from abroad created national security issues. However, US Census Bureau data showed more than $20 billion worth of consumer furniture was imported during the first half this year.

Another distraction from the Epsteien files, troops to Portland, trying to censor all types of media, etc…
Just another random act of stupidity…fire once, fire twice then think about its consequences and aim..
Who out there still supports this man and his asinine policies – especially when it comes to trade and tariffs? These “off-the-cuff” policies are the products of a deranged mind and not the result of well thought out policies.
For those people uneducated in our countries demise of manufacturing. In the high point area of nc over 600 furniture factories have closed in the past 10 years. Our country is losing our manufacturing base and the more we lose the greater risk to our national security. Do you remember the drug shortages during pandemic? Most of our drugs and materials for drugs come from China. The democrats gave away our manufacturing base and it leaves us vulnerable to the whims of our adversaries. Do yourself a favor and get educated about the true impact to our country of cheap imports.
C Carrara Thank you! Completely agree with you. Here in CT we’re seeing furniture companies completely going out of business as well, Americans jobs lost. Who knows what’s hidden in the containers shipped here from China.
That is called supply and demand and basic economics. Nothing to do with national security. If local companies aren’t capable of creating competitive prices at competitive products it is normal for them to close. They were producing it at a too high cost for a demand that stopped to exist. American people were the ones who stopped buying American products therefore it is the American people ‘s fault that those factories closed, not the Chinese who were capable of producing something at a lower cost and American people started buying more and more of their products instead. Why do you hate the Chinese but you buy Chinese products? Show your support by buying your own local products instead and just keep those factories open. American consumers closed those factories, not the President. Be an educated adult and admit your own fault or let the economy do its own work and just keep quiet if you don’t understand how it works. Economics has no political color, yes we like to bitch about the party we don’t like, or some of the politicians who are shady at least about their actions, but as long as you are capable of understanding that economics is a science and politics is just a dirty bunch of greedy people who love to manipulate power and most of them are narcissistic too, you will understand there is nothing national security in it and more like natural selection. The weak is supposed to die ( or close its doors due to high manufacturing cost), while the stronger survives, just like in nature ( because they are capable of adapting to the new demand of lower production costs or the likes of a new market trend, or by sometimes restructuring, which yes does include loosing certain jobs of factories). Those factories should have seen that coming, should have used cheaper materials or cheaper labor or created a different product capable of competing. You can cry and you get emotional or you can reeducate yourself in time to the new needs of the changes of the new generation’s likes and wants and get ahead of the game. It is always hard to be on the loosing side of the game, or admit the fact that you were wrong about your product and there was somebody better. The dumb ones get bitter and start hating the winner, while the smart ones consider it only a learning process and not a failure or a closure of factories. If you really want to help local production you subsidize local labor and local production, you don’t add on tariffs to existing production. Substraction creates smaller prices, adding on creates higher prices. Any first grader knows this. Why isn’t our President? Subsidies local forest companies to produce cheap wood creating cheaper raw materials for the furniture factories. Give tax exemptions for local furniture sets at retail stores for American made furniture to make it more affordable. Give tax credit for companies that use only local products. Give employee tax cut and profit tax cut for small businesses which creates healthy local competition where the local consumers win, don’t allow companies to grow bigger than 500 employee, because then they just add on costs of production and CEO’s wealth into the price of products without any question asked. That is what killed those 600 factories in NC in the last 10 years. Incompetence and pure greed. Accept that. The Chinese restructured their production and their economy to fit the need of demand 30 years ago and we just waking up to it. It is hard to realize that they outnumbered us and especially outgrow us by education and calculated and well managed policies. They basically bought us and made us their debt slave 20 years ago, so this isn’t just happened. We spent our non existing, non produced money on their products starting 40-50 years ago. Nothing they produce can not be made here by 2 people in a 300 acre factory with 100,000 machines. All we need is local workers to build those factories, local engineers to create and maintain those machines. We sure do have millions of undeveloped land where nobody wants to live, but with enough resources can be made productive. Or how about use those 600 closed factories to start with and just give some incentives for any daring local businesses willing to restructure in creating dollar store items. We all love to buy The Dollar store. Why don’t we make the dollar store items for 25 cents and then sell it back to ourselves for a dollar? Isn’t that creating 25 cents worth of workers and 75 cents worth of profit and not debt towards somebody else? We would fix our unemployment problem and our debt problem in one shot.
POINT WELL TAKEN!!
Let’s get one thing straight – Trump doesn’t have the brains to run his own businesses correctly, much less the country. He can’t write, he can’t spell, I haven’t seen a dollaryof all these “savings”. He is an embarrassment to those around him, and he hasn’t had an original thought since he has been in power. Our allies think he is a joke, and he is. I don’t remember a time when the world has been laughing at us behind our backs. The quicker he leaves the scene the better. His tactics are holdovers from WW2, and he thinks being an asshole wins respect. He has liked to people to get his position of power – I don’t think he has had an original thought..hopefully somewhere there is a true leader waiting to bring back our values – it will take years to earn back our trust with our allies. For someone who is supposed to know everything – he can screw up a glass of water.
Amen Gregory! If you can bankrupt a casino, you have no business sense but people love and worship him and believe everything that comes out of his mouth or what he posts on truth. If this were a democrat, the republicans would not leave Washington until he or she was impeached and out of office but Trump can do whatever he wants to do. Unfortunately, this is not going to bring manufacturing back like he wants people to believe, His tariffs are paid by us, the American people and now a portion of those tariffs are going to pay the farmers that Trump screwed. Growing up on a farm and having to work in the fields, I just don’t believe the farmers want a hand out but have been put between a rock and a hard place and have to take what they can get to survive.. I don’t know what it’s going to take to make the Trumper’s wake up!
Just another ridiculous stunt from this truly clueless administration. Trump is a national embarrassment. I have never been more ashamed at the constant crazy statements , insults and threats that emanate from the mouth of the worst most dangerous President this country has ever elected.
