The condo board at New York City’s Trump World Tower is seeking to foreclose on a $4.2 million unit owned by the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations.

According to combined media reports, Afghanistan purchased its unit in Trump World Tower in 2009. It is one of five foreign governments that own units in the building, which is managed by the Trump Organization.

The Trump Tower condo board has complained that the Mission has not paid its condo fees in three years, resulting in nearly $300,000 in overdue common charges. The condo board filed a lien against the unit last August.

However, the Mission represented the former government of Afghanistan and not the current Taliban regime. The United Nations has not recognized the Taliban’s sovereignty over Afghanistan since it came to power in 2021. and it has refused to accept the appointment of Muhammad Suhail Shaheen as the Afghan ambassador to the world body.
