The University of Iowa has taken to Realtor.com to list one of its residence halls for sale.
According to a report from Inside Higher Education, the 326,000-square-foot building in Iowa City is being offered as a “multi-family” property with 523 furnished rooms, a four-car garage, gyms, communal rooms and meeting rooms. For the $45 million asking price, the university promises the property “will be delivered to the buyer vacant in the summer of 2024.”
The dorm was built in 1968 and the school said it was “the least-requested student dorm”; the building made the news in 2022 when a student fell out of a sixth-floor window and when potential gas leaks required two separate evacuations of the property. The decision to sell the property was first announced in February, and the school said a new residence hall would be constructed once the property was sold.
