The Biden administration reported an 18.1% increase in homelessness during 2024, although the administration also insisted it had “tackled the nation’s homelessness crisis with the urgency it demands” since taking office in 2021.
The latest data, which was published by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) based tallies in January, found that more than 770,000 people were counted as homeless. The latest increase follows the 12% rise in homelessness recorded in 2023.
This year’s data included a 39% increase in family homelessness, which was primarily attributed to the influx of migrants into the country. The Maui wildfires were also cited, with more than 5,200 people sleeping in disaster emergency shelters following the destruction.
HUD claimed that homelessness among veterans was down by nearly 8%, from 35,574 in 2023 to 32,882 in 2024.
Simultaneous with the announcement of the new data, HUD also published a press release titled “Federal Government Announces Significant Efforts to Reduce Homelessness.” This release included announcements of new funding measures to address homelessness, which HUD said reaffirmed the White House’s commitment to combating the problem.
“Since day one, the Biden-Harris Administration has tackled the nation’s homelessness crisis with the urgency it demands, prioritizing resources and programs that help communities reconnect individuals to housing, while maintaining a long-term focus on increasing the availability of affordable housing,” said the HUD press release.

thank you Joe for taking care of this problem…. another fine job done by democrats. keep up the good work…… 😂 lol
Simple common sense. Let in the illegals like water through the border and get instant homelessness.
Wait till the mad maga psycho gets installed then you’re going to see some homelessness. Unsubscribing from thisg this right wing nut mega site …
If that’s what they call “tackling” the homeless problem then I would hate to see what would have happened if they had left the problem alone!
The Biden Administration and its supporters have a difficult time with truth and reality; it’s a big reason they were soundly rejected on November 5.
Their claim that they “tackled homelessness” is as deluded as their claims that “the border is secure”, “inflation is transitory”, “Bidenomics is working” the “Afghanistan withdrawal was a success”, “Covid was a pandemic of the unvaccinated”, “masks and the vaccines prevent the spread of Covid”, “humans can change their gender” and “Joe Biden is sharp as a tack and hard to keep up with”.
If the punishment for lying by politicians and their supporters was commensurate with the adverse effects their lies have on the American people, then Joe Biden, his Administration and his supporters – especially left-media and big tech – would be serving life-sentences with no hope of parole.
Amen David, hit that nail on the head!
🎯🎯
Spot on 100%. Thank God they didn’t steal another Presidential election.
The time for all the prevaricators of the Biden-Harris administration to move to St. Croix can not happen soon enough! They have destroyed the faith in Government of most of the American people who actually pay attention. Thank you, WRE and Phil Hall, for helping Realtors stay aware of what’s going on.
Very well said John W, thank you!
I wish any and all politicians stay away from hyperbole statements like “tackling the problem”. I do sincerely think that the Biden-Harris administration did do more to help but due to the quickness that the numbers of homeless can change its nearly impossible to get a head of the problem. The new Trump administration will continue the efforts via a consolidated effort but they most probably will not “tackle” the problem either. I was a board member for a homeless collation here in Indianapolis many years ago. One of my brother-in-law worked with the homeless in his policeman’s program and another brother-in-law worked with the VA in their homeless initiatives. All of us realized how complex the homelessness issues are. We made progress but we did not completely solve the problem. Jesus said that you will always have the poor with you. My prayers are that maybe someday with efforts from all political parties, states, localities, religious organizations and philanthropic groups that we will get as close as possible to eliminating homelessness. The good news is that homelessness is on many radars and more efforts are being made to help alleviate the problem one person and one family at a time.
Since 2019, California has spent about $24 billion on homelessness, but in this five-year period, homelessness increased by about 30,000, to more than 181,000. Put differently, California spent the equivalent of about $160,000 per person (based on the 2019 figure) over the last five years.
If that’s what Biden and his administration calls tackling the homelessness problem, they undoubtedly would have the worst football team in the world.
