The Trump administration abruptly reversed course and rescinded its order to pause federal grants, loans and other financial-assistance programs.

The Wall Street Journal reported the decision comes one day after a federal judge temporarily blocked the directive from the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), which was issued on Monday. The order created confusion, as specific programs to be paused were not identified.

In its original announcement of the pause, the Trump administration said the OMB directive was designed to comply with Trump’s executive orders to erase “Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies” from federal programs. A coalition of 23 Democratic state attorneys general said they planned to file a lawsuit to stop the funding freeze, which they alleged was unconstitutional.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted to X, “This is NOT a rescission of the federal funding freeze. It is simply a rescission of the OMB memo. Why? To end any confusion created by the court’s injunction. The President’s EO’s on federal funding remain in full force and effect, and will be rigorously implemented.”
