A Nantucket compound sold for $38.1 million, creating the largest residential real estate sale in Massachusetts history.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the sellers are venture capitalist Evan Jones and his wife, wildlife photographer Cindy Jones, who acquired the 3.56-acre property on Monomoy harbor – known as “Beam Ends” – in 2006 for $16 million as a summer residence. The Joneses initially listed the property in July 2022 for $56 million and reduced it in April to $48 million.

The buyer was identified as Nantucket Mountain LLC. Cindy Jones told the Nantucket Current that “the purchasers are an old New England family who we feel will be respectful stewards of the property and appreciated its history which included ownership by a whaling captain a century and a half ago.”

The property encompasses an 11,000-square-foot residence and two guest houses. According to the Nantucket Current, the property was first sold in 1906 for $1, with the buyer being required to invest $110 in re-grading the approach to the land.
