The BayPort Foundation, the philanthropic arm of BayPort Credit Union, has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg and Newport News Shipbuilding to co-sponsor a 3D-printed home in the southeast neighborhood of Newport News, Virginia.

The home is the first of its kind in the Newport News market and is anticipated to be completed in December. 3D printing relies on concrete to print the walls, saving up to 15% per square foot in construction costs. The new home is approximately 1,200 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

BayPort’s co-sponsored home is one of two being built side-by-side in partnership with Habitat and Newport News Shipbuilding. Both houses are the second and third houses in Hampton Roads, Viriginia, being built using 3D printing technology.

“We are blessed to have community partners like BayPort supporting our mission of building homes, communities and hope,” said Janet V. Green, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “It is wonderful to see how BayPort’s funds will impact the lives of not only one family but an entire community.”
