A mortgage officer who just began a new career as a real estate agent was killed on Friday night when a gunman opened fire at a gas station in Bessemer, Alabama.
AL.com reported 41-year-old Wesley Fowler Jr. was one of three men fatally shot at a Citgo station near his home. Fowler’s family believed he stopped at the location to purchase something and was an innocent bystander who was killed by bullets meant for someone else.
“He was in the wrong place at the wrong time,’’ said Fowler’s cousin, Erika Baskerville.
Fowler worked at the insurance agency Protective Life as a customer experience manager and was previously a mortgage operations manager and mortgage team manager at PNC. He recently became a realtor and sold his first house a few days before his death.
Christopher Eddins, 25 and Ronald Dixon Jr., 20, were also killed in the shooting. Raukeem Cunningham, 20, was charged with capital murder, and police have not identified a target or possible motive for the crime.
