A historic estate outside of Washington, DC, that once hosted George Washington has been listed for $11.5 million.
Mansion Global reports the 43-acre estate in Purcellville, Virginia, features a manor house built in 1741 for Israel and Sarah Thompson, prominent farmers in Loudoun County. Washington, who was traveling to his property west of the Appalachian Mountains with an entourage consisting of servants and horses, stayed at the Thompsons’ residence on Sept. 2, 1784.
The manor house has been renovated and expanded over the years and now encompasses 6,256 square feet with six bedrooms, four full bathrooms and two half-baths. Also included in the listing is a four-bedroom guest house that dates to 1800 and a one-bedroom guest cottage with a full kitchen and bathroom.
The property, which is named Wheatland Farm, is now home to an equestrian center. The nonprofit Faith and Family owns the property, which also features a saltwater pool, a new barn with 18 stalls plus outdoor and indoor riding arenas.
