Airbnb.org, the nonprofit arm of Airbnb (NASDAQ: ABNB), announced that it would offer free temporary housing for people who have been displaced by Hurricane Helene.
The organization is teaming with the Florida United Methodist Conference and 211 contact centers in Florida and North Carolina to connect people with a free place to stay. Residents in the impacted states seeking to use this service are asked to call their local 211 contact center.
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper welcomed the offer by noting, “Hurricane Helene devastated Western Carolina and we’re working hard to make sure everyone impacted has a safe place to stay following the storm. We appreciate Airbnb.org stepping up to provide free temporary housing to those in need and collaborating with other local organizations during this challenging time.”
Airbnb.org focuses on connecting people with free, temporary housing in times of crisis. Earlier this year, Airbnb.org helped people displaced by wildfires in San Bernardino, California and Jasper, Canada, Hurricane Beryl in Houston, by the floods in Brazil, and by the earthquake in Japan’s Noto Peninsula.

More damage control much needed after they revealed they suffer from TDS & threw their support to harris campaign. AND many view them as hurting the inventory of homes from home owners who put up w a “rental” in their nice neighborhood &/or investors snatching-up homes that could otherwise be available for owner occupied (first time) home buyers. Nonetheless if they can help homelessness caused by catastrophes like Helene, thumbs up to them on that.
Does every response to an article need to be a rant and/or a political statement? How about, “it’s great to hear about companies that care about the citizens in its markets.” Feels better to me.
