Single-family housing starts in September were at a rate of 1.02 million, according to new data from the US Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This is 2.7% above the revised August figure of 1 million.

Privately-owned housing starts in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.354 million, a 0.5% dip from the revised August estimate of 1.361 million and 0.7% below the September 2023 rate of 1.363 million.

Single-family authorizations in September were at a rate of 970,000, a 0.3% uptick from the revised August figure of 967,000. Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.42 million, a 2.9% drop from the revised August rate of 1.47 million and 5.7% below the September 2023 rate of 1.51 million.

Single-family housing completions in September were at a rate of 1 million, down 2.7% from the revised August rate of 1.02 million. Privately-owned housing completions in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.68 million, which is 5.7% below the revised August estimate of 1.78 million and 14.6% above the September 2023 rate of 1.46 million.
