Bill Strauss, a Coldwell Banker realtor with over two decades of professional experience, is planning to run for Mayor of Columbus, Mississippi, in 2025.
In a social media post, the Republican Strauss stated he would make his official announcement at an event on Dec. 7. His campaign will be conducted under the slogan “Better Together.”
“I’m running for mayor because I believe Columbus is strongest when we work together,” said Strauss in a statement. “This campaign is about collaboration, progress, and ensuring our city thrives for generations to come. I look forward to connecting with the community and hearing their hopes and ideas for our city.”
Columbus is the county seat of Lowndes County, on the eastern border of Mississippi, and it has a population of roughly 23,000. The current mayor is Keith Gaskin, an independent who was elected in 2021 in a narrow victory over longtime Democrat incumbent Robert Smith. Gaskin announced in September that he was not seeking re-election and offered his endorsement to Darren Leach, a pastor at Genesis Church in Columbus.
